As the world prepared to usher in a new age, YMCA Valletta embarked on a series of festivals mirroring the global shift and its fresh, can-do energy.

A free (for early arrivals) music festival was organised to fundraise the organisation: a first of its kind in Malta. Featuring four arenas, each with a different style of music to accommodate every taste, alongside theme park rides and craft stalls. The event was broadcast live on Island Sound, and saw many big artists of the day performing.

Earth Day 2000 comprised world-wide activities to raise awareness for and protect the environment. The Maltese Ministry for the Environment, in collaboration with the Valletta Rehabilitation Project and many Maltese NGOs took part. YMCA Valletta offered a 3-day event at the Internet Café, focusing on the importance of communication in solving environmental problems….an issue it seems we still haven’t addressed….

We also took part in the Festażgħażagħ 2000, a youth festival organised by the Diocesan Youth Commission. The festival included the participation of 70 local youth organisations and participants from 12 countries.
